Polyether sulfone (PES) is film forming, chemically inert, and highly elastic (thermal and mechanical stability). Another major advantage is its good miscibility with solvents and additives, making PES a good membrane material for a variety of industrial applications. PES membranes are limited because their inherent hydrophobicity can lead to scaling. The ideal membrane for producing high throughput should have a thin cortex with an asymmetrical structure. Membrane properties depend on the permeability of the product and the desired selectivity.
The effects of preparation parameters such as additive, coagulant, condensation bath temperature and evaporation time on the formation of membrane structure were investigated. Hydrophilic modifiers and surface modifiers were used to improve the performance of PES films. The formation of the film depends on various manufacturing parameters and process conditions. Membrane modification under optimized manufacturing conditions will be a good choice to obtain high throughput membranes. Therefore, this study focuses on the development of high-throughput PES membranes by sequentially optimizing three different important preparation parameters: solvent type, coagulation bath temperature, and coagulant non-solvent. The real-time lake water filtration efficiency of the membrane was also tested.
