Description:
Polydioxanone (PDO) is a homopolymer of p-dioxanone with many favorable characteristics, including non-toxicity, biodegradability, and suitable mechanical strength. As a suture material, PDO fibers exhibit attractive safety and complete biodegradability. Unlike polyglycolide, PDO contains many ether groups in its structure, which replace half of the ester groups. This structure significantly enhances its flexibility while still providing sufficient strength. Additionally, by reducing the concentration of ester groups, polydioxanone degrades more slowly, enabling it to maintain its mechanical strength for a longer duration and remain in tissue for several weeks.
