Description:
Polycaprolactone (PCL) has high permeability for drug molecules and slow degradation kinetics, making it suitable for developing controlled drug delivery systems. It is a cost-effective polymer that does not create an acidic environment during degradation.
Additionally, it has many characteristics like biocompatibility, biodegradability, and non-immunogenicity, along with hydrophobic semi-crystalline properties. PCL is an FDA-approved polymer for pharmaceutical applications and has long been used in the pharmaceutical industry for the development of drug delivery systems.
By attaching drugs or biological/chemical entities to the surface of the PCL microspheres, the microspheres can be used as a carrier. PCL microspheres are used for controlled release, sustained release and targeted drug delivery. The degradation rate of PCL is slower than PLGA.
